Lamy Safari x Line Friends (Brown in the Red Box)

My brother-in-law recently went to Japan on vacation and I asked him to look for one thing for me. This pen has been on my wishlist since 2016 and now it’s here. I know it doesn’t exactly look like the other pens in my collection, but I find it awfully cute. This Lamy Safari is a collaboration with Line Friends, which are characters based on stickers of the Line messaging app. Honestly, I wasn’t familiar with Line Friends at all until this collaboration, and I really just wanted the brown bear. This is called Brown in a Red Box because…it’s Brown the bear in a red tin box.

The package is wrapped in a cute white cardboard sleeve, which is pretty heavy for a pen box. The red tin box that contains the pen and accessories is really cute. Reminds me of the tin pen cases I had back in my elementary school days.

The box smells like almond extract. Not exactly unpleasant but it’s a very noticeable smell. I don’t mind at all. Note that the bear attachment to the clip smells strongly of almond extract too.

Inside the box is the cocoa brown-colored pen, two pouty silicone bears, two cartridges (one is inside the pen), and a converter (the one with the red accent, not  black).

I got the XF nib this time, I was a little ambivalent about that because I’ve never had an XF nib before. I prefer the bear that’s standing up rather than the one sitting down because it’s lighter. The sitting bear is a bit chunky and makes the pen top-heavy. It is awfully cute, though. If you don’t mind the weight.

I only have three Lamy Safaris, I don’t really collect them, but what I like about them is that they’ve been consistent with the nib quality so far. They’re durable, light, and uncomplicated. This one’s no different. I decided to ink it with Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi because I think the color matches perfectly. Pen and ink OTP. <3

All my worries about getting an xf nib were dispelled as soon as I used the pen. It’s not as scratchy as I expected. The sweet spot is definitely narrow and there’s feedback, but overall it’s not an unpleasant thing.

It’s also pretty nice that the letters on the nib are brown.

I don’t usually buy pens with cartoon characters on them, but this one is just too adorbs.
